Laurita Mazapàn
My real name is Laura Bazan Martin, but someone gave me the nickname of Mazapan (a typical Spanish sweet) for my surname and even if it did not last too much, I have always like it.
I do not seek beauty, look for the transmission of my feelings and feelings of others. I use body painting, I represent the people inside on his own body and in mine. Represent a moment that vanishes because tomorrow will be different. I photografiate it to endure over time, remaining me (or to other people) how I was in that moment
Most of my photos were taken on my body, because art helps me to understand, explore, relax and express myself.
I will continue working every day, improving and sharing my moments.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do them.

Hasselblad Master 2012 in category Up and Coming

Coming from Holland I like to do story telling pictures in a vintage mood. My scenes focus on detail. A longer look might open the door to another journey.
Well …anyway all is thought of long before the camera clicks.

Since my early childhood I was addicted to drawing with ink and pencils, as well as experimenting with photography. My father has been a gifted painter, illustrator and photographer, so art in general was something “common”.

I quickly realized that I could express my ideas best with illustrations and photography.

My pictures, either they are a photo or an illustration, have a graphical shade like old etchings show it or book illustrations from the past centuries look alike. I’m concentrating on shapes, textures and details rather than playing with the full spectrum of colors. If colors are used , then only in a small range of the whole palette.

While my photographs show mostly technical or mechanical equipment, landscapes, architectural objects, plants and some animals, my illustrations are a mixture out of fantasy themes, science fiction and surreal as well as erotic elements. As in my photographs a black and white style predominates.

While it helps to shape out forms and structures in my photographs it is an

indispensable part of my illustrations to visualize good vs evil themes.

Traveling around, reading books and talking to friends and collegues are the

motors of all my ideas, either photography or illustration projects.

No specialized gear is used, from an iPhone to a DSLR and from ballpoints

and pens to digital brushes all available toolsets are intensively utilized.

Analog and digital equipment are equally employed, they are just tools and

no magical devices. Most of the illustrations start as a simple sketch on paper, finalized in many different ways.

Last but not least my son is named here, who is a great painter and musician. He gives me a lot of inspiration and criticism.

Illustrations and photographs are printed on many varying materials, from

Washi paper to truck planes, in many different sizes. For some of my artwork limited editions are available.

For myself drawing and shooting images are the way to communicate things that can’t be described by words.”
